A quick strategy game for 2 players using items found around the house.

What You Need

  • 6 units per player (2 each of soldiers, tanks, and artillery)
  • One six-sided die
  • A chess board or 8x8 grid drawn on paper
  • Optional: Can be played on a smaller 6x6 grid for faster games

Setup

  1. Each player takes 6 units (2 soldiers, 2 tanks, 2 artillery)
  2. Place your units on your back row in any order you choose
  3. Decide who goes first by rolling the die - highest roll starts

How Units Move

  • Each unit can move up to 2 spaces per turn in any direction (including diagonally)
  • After a unit moves or attacks, flip it over to show it’s done for this turn
  • At the start of your turn, flip all your units face-up again

How Units Attack

Each type of unit has different attack abilities:
- Soldiers can only attack enemy units right next to them
- Tanks can attack enemy units one space away
- Artillery can attack enemy units two spaces away

To attack:
1. Roll one die
2. Need 3+ to hit if attacking from next to an enemy
3. Need 5+ to hit if attacking from farther away
4. If you hit, remove the enemy unit from the board

Special Abilities:
- Soldiers: Can push enemy units one space back when hitting them
- Tanks: Can move after attacking
- Artillery: Can attack twice per turn but can’t move if they attack

How to Win

Any ONE of these will win you the game:
1. Get any of your units to the opposite end of the board
2. Control the center area:
- On 6x6 board: Occupy 3 out of the 4 central squares (2x2 area in middle)
- On 8x8 board: Occupy 5 out of the 9 central squares (3x3 area in middle)
- Must maintain control for one full turn (start and end)
3. Remove all of one type of enemy unit (both soldiers, both tanks, or both artillery)

On Your Turn

  1. Flip all your units face-up
  2. You can do these in any order with your face-up units:
    - Move a unit and flip it
    - Attack with a unit and flip it
  3. End your turn

Quick Tips

  • Short range units (soldiers) are strong up close
  • Medium range units (tanks) are flexible
  • Long range units (artillery) can attack from safety but need protection
  • Try to keep your units working together

Game Length

  • Most games take 10-15 minutes
  • Perfect for best of three matches!

Optional Rules for Younger Players

  • All attacks hit on 3+ (ignore the 5+ rule for longer range)
  • Only use the “get to the other side” victory condition
  • Everyone gets 3 of the same unit type instead of mixed units
